Relocation of 30”-40” caliper Live Oaks

Project Type

Relocation New Development Construction Large Tree Installation

UFW was chosen to execute a challenging project involving the relocation of 3 very large Live Oaks. In addition to the relocation of the mature, native trees, on site UFW supplied, delivered and installed 16” live oaks. The Allen Morris Company wanted to preserve and relocate numerous native and historic live oaks for their new multi-use development. These specimen trees could never be replicated or replaced with nursery grown material as they are 30”-40” in caliper. UFW provided a solution to save the trees. The firm of Kimley-Horn designed the project and located these trees in key eye-catching locations that looks as if they grew there naturally.

Working with the developer and the landscape architect and after months of preparations, the trees were boxed at their original location using our patented LTT system, lifted by a 250-ton crane onto a lowboy trailer and driven to their predetermined sites. Often our tree placements are done in the early stages of site development, but this project’s landscape was complete except for these large trees. The UFW box system allows these nearly 60,000-pound trees to be lifted off a trailer, up and over the hardscapes and vulnerable plant material and lowered safely into their new excavated final location.
